about

Recorded live at Amatøren, 2005.

Snill På Bånd is an example of a piece that had been around, in different forms, for quite a few years before it ended up on a record. The musical ideas, that came from Trond, stems from the earliest Panzerpappa days. Some of the ideas were originally part of the piece 99 Trappetrinn (which has been covered earlier in this Avant calendar) and some ideas were found in a separate song called Snill Sang På Bånd. Working on the second album, Hulemysteriet, the focus was primarily on 99 Trappetrinn. The band's guitarist at the time, Endre Begby, wasn't all too happy with the structure of the piece and so Steinar came up with a revised version in which some of the melodic ideas were developed further and other sections originally found in the song were omitted. After the release of Hulemysteriet, and the reforming of Panzerpappa with a new guitarist and bass player, Steinar took to the needle-and-thread approach in also revising the old Snill Sang på Bånd idea, this time including omitted parts from 99 Trappetrinn. The revised version, now called Snill På Bånd, became a popular and light-hearted concert favouritewhich eventually ended up on the 2006 release, Koralrevens Klagesang. Once again the title is a pun, it sounds like “Snill på bunn”, which can be translated to “good at heart”. Bånd on the other hand means tape, so the written form of the name means roughly “good on tape”…

Panzerpappa Oslo, Norway

Panzerpappa is the definitive Norwegian instrumental Avant/Progressive Rock/RIO group. Their inventive and playful sound ("Progressive Rock with a friendly face") is at once reminiscent of inspirational precursors such as Samla Mammas Manna, King Crimson, Henry Cow, Univers Zero and Frank Zappa, while at the same time sounding unmistakably like ...
